Ismael has a Degree in Law and European Law (CEU San Pablo) and a Degree in Geography and History (UNED).
Ismael is an expert in Environmental Law with over 20 years of experience in topics such as circular economy and waste, climate change, environmental permits, and biodiversity. He is currently PwC’s co-lead for ESG Legal.
Prior to joining PwC, he was the Director General for Environmental Quality and Assessment at the Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, responsible for circular economy and waste policies, air quality, environmental impact assessment, and chemicals, among others.
Much of his public sector career has been linked to climate change, particularly carbon markets, where he was responsible for the EU ETS and international carbon markets policies at the Spanish Climate Change Office and was also detached to the unit responsible for international carbon markets, aviation, and maritime of the DG for Climate Action of the European Commission. He has also worked in other domains of environmental policies as Head of Cabinet of the Secretary of State of Environment or as a legal expert at the Directorate General for Shores. As a Civil Servant, he belongs to the High Corps of State Civil Administrators.
